BROTHER SAL & the DEVIL MAY CARE

There’s something about a piano man that brings people together from all walks of life. When Brother Sal pours his soul into the keys, he creates a joyful noise that unites the crowd through raw emotion and awakens the song inside all of us. It’s the universal nature of music that comes from the heart.

It’s impossible to try to make music that is embraced by such a wide audience. Some people just do it naturally. Brother Sal has rocked audiences at NASCAR races, Congressional ceremonies, and officially sanctioned Jeff Buckley tribute concerts. That’s the power of his trademark “Whorehouse Gospel” sound. It connects with the sin and the saint in all of us.

Brother Sal comes by his expansive appeal honestly. Born in Virginia, he was taught to play the piano with love by his grandmother. Unlike a lot of people in the area, Sal was lucky enough to see the world in tow with his father, a photojournalist for the military. Sal ended up spending the bulk of his youth in Italy, with intermittent stints in various towns across America, before taking root in California and building his music career. In these seemingly disparate locations, Sal learned the truths that span all people.

“I don’t care who you are, everyone on this planet has at least one thing in common, and that’s music. I don’t care if you are white, black, Asian, a Christian, a Muslim, a doctor, a soldier, young or old, music is the one thing that we all have in common. Music is the medicine for the soul.” Brother Sal in Crowned Rebellion.

Brother Sal taps into the common rhythms and stories that we all share, or as No Depression put it:

“Sal’s sound is so organic and ageless that it moves you on an almost animalistic level, but there’s also a lot of wisdom in these songs too. They’re the stories and celebrations of life’s victories and defeats and the long van ride in between. The stories are personal but the feelings behind them are universal and transcendent. You may have suffered different losses and you may have won under different circumstances, but you know the feelings behind these songs, and Sal sings with such unadulterated passion that the commonality of the emotion resonates with everyone in the room.” NoDepression.com

Sal has surrounded himself with some of the most talented musicians in Los Angeles, including David Immerglück (Counting Crows), Brian Wright, and Joe Purdy, just to name a few. Together, with his band The Devil May Care, Brother Sal plays over 150 shows a year, and he recently stepped into the hallowed ground of the world famous Sunset Sound studios to lay the next chapter of his story to tape. Emily Lazar

September Mourning is a trans-media project created by artist Emily Lazar and comic book mogul, Marc Silvestri.  The project, based around a fictional character named September, uses all forms of modern media to create it's own universe. Building on creative and business principles pioneered by legendary rockers David Bowie and Kiss, September Mourning is poised to be this generations icon for not only rock music but for the comic world as well.

At the core of this project is the story of September, a Reaper that walks in both the worlds of the living and the dead.  She wields the power to take souls to the afterlife or give them a second chance in this life.  Her unique powers stem from the mercy and love of a Reaper named Riven who was sent to take her soul when she was mortal.

The character of September is played by artist, Emily Lazar.  She portrays September not only in the comic world but also the real world as the singer of "September Mourning".  This musical incarnation has toured with Marilyn Manson, The Birthday Massacre, Dommin, I Am Ghost, and Hanzel Und Gretyl.  In May 2012 the album, Melancholia, was released on Repo Records (Germany).  The release has spawned national and international radio play as well as print and online press publication.

Marc Silvestri of Top Cow Comics is the spearhead of the comic/media portion of this project.  Silvestri, known for his creation of such iconic characters as The Darkness, Witchblade, and Cyberforce, has helped Lazar in the development of the character and story line of September Mourning.  He has also garnered exposure for the project through recent Comic Con expos and has secured a deal with MTV Geek to feature Lazar in webisodes of the live action comic.

The fantasy universe created by September Mourning is composed of elements and principles found in legendary stories and lends itself to be utilized in modern mediums.  The loyal cult following for this project continues to grow in numbers as more media components are unveiled.

Debbie Goodman And Friends

Singer/songwriter Debbie Goodman went from rocking "music row" in Nashville, Tennessee to jamming "the strip" in Los Angeles, California. She went from touring the eastern coast of the United States fronting a rock band, to playing every place you've heard of from the House of Blues to The Viper Room, with just her voice and her guitar. Debbie Goodman and Friends adds percussionist, Preston Gray, and killer bassist, Janette Matthews to the mix. You'll see this 3-piece rocking every venue in the LA area.

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

Haas

Born and raised in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Haas came to America in 1999. Exposed to hip hop and influenced by the likes of 50 cents, Haas admired 50’s perseverance to bounce back after being shot nine times. Haas noticed that everyone liked 50 with his nice cars, and girls loved him. It was this time in Haas’s life that he knew subconsciously as a kid that he wanted to be just like him. During Haas’s childhood, he never had a home, and he felt like he didn't belong... This was due to him moving around so much. He changed zip codes like he changed underwear. After coming to the states, Haas lived all over the east coast.

The only thing that kept him grounded was music. After seeing artists that appeared on television that came from nothing and made themselves successful, Haas reached the conclusion that if they can do it, he can do it too. Haas never looked at it as making money, but simply that he could do what these other artist are doing, but just better. In October 2012 things took a turn for the worst for Haas when he was arrested and taken to jail. After being released from incarceration Haas checked his phone and realized even though he was gone for a period of time only a few people bothered to check up on him. This was the wake up call that made Haas realize no one in this world cares about you other than you. So he decided to move to Hollywood, California to do what he wanted to do for himself and follow his dreams. With $100 dollars in his pocket, Haas managed to land an apartment after 6 months on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. Now in Hollywood, Haas met Levi from Brain Dead Bureaucracy, an independent indie record label, who worked with Haas and put him through his artist development program, and here Haas is now with his latest release, Lottery. This song has a nice club vibe that is infectious and is worthy of any major record label. Haas is 20 years old. He wrote the lyrics and helped compose and mixed the music for this song himself. Look out world. Here comes the next Super Star. Follow Haas on Twitter at www.Twitter.com/haas_stile and check out his smash hit below, "The Lottery."

Moa Felicia

     Superstar!
Moa Felicia has lived in Los Angeles since 2012 and has played for J.Lo, and Arnold Schwarznegger among others as a DJ. She has performed at clubs in Hollywood, and played at pool parties in Beverly Hills.

Since the summer, Moa has literally taken it back to basics. Her main focus is entirely solo production and development of her techniques - influenced by a wide set of artist such as Aeroplane, Miguel Campell, Jamie Jones, Bob Marley, Junior Jack, Daft Punk, , Lykke Li, Style of Eye, Aretha Franklin, Empire of the Sun, Robyn, Jamie Woon, and Nina Kraviz. Moa was born in the modern capital of Scandinavia, Stockholm in December of 1989. Growing up in a suburb, her passion for music evolved from Disney songs as a five year old into Electronic Dance Music as a teenager. In 2011, she could not stand to live with the west coast of the U.S. being unexplored and made the decision to take part of the big revolution of EDM.

The passion for music ignited when Moa eagerly learned to play the piano at the age of six years old. Electronic music became a fellow companion through her teenage years. In Sweden, the clubs of Stockholm began to take notice of her. By the age of 19 she was playing in the bigger clubs in the capital of Scandinavia. The Local star artists in Stockholm at that time were the early formation of Swedish House Mafia, Darwin Backwall and (spelled with two “i’s”), Miike Snow. Two years later, after finishing a Bachelor of Science degree from a University that is ranked top 10 in the world, Moa was offered to tour with The Female DJ Revolution around Sweden. Cosmopolitan magazine among other big magazines acknowledged the tour as a feminine takeover. Moa Felicia plays on Pioneer Cdjs, "I never used DJ Software such as traktor", she says, followed by an explanation of how she covered the bpm monitors when practicing to beat match when she was 19. "I am looking forward into involving more live elements in my show," she adds, stating that live performance will be more important for live DJs in the future. "I look forward to see what's next in the scene of superstar DJs."

Harry's musical achievements have been developed and produced by nationally acclaimed bands such as WIM and Drop Tank, both from Australia.      The sky is the limit, for this next big Australian import on the music scene!

Max & The Moon

Emerging out of the combustive indie music scene of southern California in 2009, Max and the Moon and their relentless gig playing have created a buzz that rides on its own frequency. The four piece band display a talent for intricate songwriting and sounds that resemble the classic harmonies of the Beach Boys and early Coldplay to the catchy dance beats of Passion Pit. Substance magazine writes, "their music has a way of pulling you in with their starry guitar echoing in combination with John’s soothing vocals and superb upper register."

Laden with strong guitar licks, steady piano and punctuated vocal harmonies—the band makes full use of two primary vocalists. Max and the Moon's "The Way I See," showcases the band’s songwriting and experimentation with new sounds, expanding their scope and offering a significant contribution to the ever-changing music scene in Los Angeles. “Out of My Head” opens with cleverly conjured sampling of Matt’s unique voice to make us feel the irony of having someone stuck in your head.

Guitarist John Velasquez earned a degree in music at Cal State University, Fullerton, and began collaborating with longtime friends Matt and Dillon Couchois in the two brothers' small garage studio. Joined by Zachariah Weaver on bass, the band has come a long way in the few short years since their formation, challenging themselves everyday with booking shows or heading back to the drawing board on a new song that doesn't quite capture the right vision. In the present age of endless hype around new music, Max and the Moon stay true to passionately personal songwriting. That isn't to say these guys are low-key, though; the band revels in putting on energetic rock shows.

Til All Is One

Formed in 2011, based out of Los Angeles,CA Til All Is One is a rock and roll band in the truest sense of the word! Harkening back to the old school ideology of blending all of our favorite styles and sounds into one sonic amalgam. Making it all the sweeter and more interesting, is the fact that the band is also comprised of four individuals from completely different walks of life. To be more specific, our style is comprised of punk, hard rock, progressive, with a smart pop sensibility. Reminiscent at times of early 90's hard rock hints of funk and jazz. Our goal and vision as a band is to topple the clear black and white lines that cage today's music scene in categorical boxes while simultaneously reinvigorating the excitement of listening to melodic, heavy music with a conscience.

Supporting their current EP release “Front row at the apocalypse”   Til All is One is has set their sights on bringing Rock and it’s fans back to their roots!

DJ Bia Bia

Originally from Tuscany, Italy, Bianca aka BIA BIA found her way to South Beach, FL where she attended the University of Miami. Being drawn in and soaked into Miami's house culture, starting at the age of 17, BIA BIA took to working in event planning, hosting, and marketing and promotions in elite clubs such as Crobar, Mansion (Level), The Living Room, Krave, The Forge, etc. Not soon thereafter, she purchased her first pair of Technic 1200s.

Having had become what is known as a "Bedroom DJ", many people found themselves leaving venues to go back to listen to her spin. This lead to her DJ'ng at numerous house parties in South Florida. Ultimately, while having majored in film production, she felt compelled to move to Hollywood, CA.

After having worked on numerous productions in various positions and opening up her own film production company, BIA BIA found herself being pulled toward the music industry. With music always having been a huge part of BIA BIA's life (she has played the clarinet, guitar, and drums since the age of 9), it is only natural for her to now take DJ'ng on as a full time gig. She is also currently producing her own music with an EP set to be released.

Having traveled the world and listened to DJ's all over, she has developed a unique sense of sound in combination with her seductive house/electro/tech/dub mixing skills. For a newcomer, BIA BIA has already spun all over the country from South Beach back home to LA as well as overseas from London to Italy. BIA BIA aims to please, and therefore, is always feeding off of the crowd's energy during her sets and freestyles according to the crowd's listening pleasure...

Boys Like Girls

Crazy World

In the 21st century, it's extremely easy to get distracted. We're tethered to our devices and constantly pulled in countless directions. We've got smartphones, laptops, and Wi-Fi everywhere, and it seems like attention is almost too precious of a commodity to even be held.

"Life in 2012 is so crazy," declares Boys Like Girls’ singer and songwriter Martin Johnson. "Whether you're working or going to school, it's insane how fragmented everything can be. Music is the only thing that still holds people together."

While making the platinum-selling quartet's third album, Crazy World [Columbia Records], Johnson underwent a serious creative transformation. Radio had embraced the pulsating sounds of electronic dance and club music, and it seemed like rock was being swept under the proverbial rug. In 2010, Johnson began writing and recording with that popular landscape in mind, but it didn't click for him. So, he took a trip to Nashville.

"I was trying to conform to what was happening at radio rather than conform to who I was as a musician," he sighs. "We decided to take some time off and collect ourselves. I went down to Nashville and wrote a ton of songs in early 2011. I hung out and experienced the culture too. I wanted to approach music from a different perspective. It's so laptop-based in Los Angeles and New York. Real players still exist in Nashville and that inspired me. I went back to L.A., showed the guys what I was working on, and we went into the studio immediately."

The result is an album that bristles with the group's inherent energy, but also boasts irresistible pop rock elegance. Johnson assumed production duties himself, and the band cut eleven diverse anthems that run the gamut from the shimmering "First Time" to the heartfelt piano ballad "Leaving California".

About his role behind the board, Johnson comments, "It was a really different process, and it was a great way for us to bond in the studio. This was our opportunity to collectively say, 'This is not what the machine created. This is what we created.' We spoke out and made an album that felt right to us."

It's going to feel right to the band's faithful and new fans as well. The first single "Be Your Everything" sails on a massive hook that's instantly infectious and invigorating.

About the song, the frontman goes on, "It's a great transition from where the band was. We came from a wall of guitars, and the sound has evolved. Lyrically, it's a straightforward love song, inviting a specific girl in. The only time I really express my feelings is when I'm writing music. That's how it's been since I was a little kid. This song is the moment when it becomes okay to say, I love you."

At the same time, there's the hand-clap stomp of "Life of the Party," which lives up to its moniker. In a world preoccupied with tragedy and its own end, Johnson urges to let go and live a little during the track's unforgettable refrain.

"Enjoy your life while you're still alive," he smiles. "When it all comes crashing down, where are you going to be? It's about having a great time in the moment because you never know when it's going to be gone."

Boys Like Girls—Johnson, Paul DiGiovanni [Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals], John Keefe [Drums], Morgan Dorr [Bass, Backing Vocals]—have certainly been making the most of their time since they burst onto the scene in 2006 with the release of their gold-selling eponymous debut.  The album moved over 718,000 copies and its first single, "The Great Escape," reached the top of the pop charts, selling 1.6 million-plus copies. Together with 2009's Love Drunk, the band has sold over 1.17 million albums and 8 million tracks worldwide. They also remain a digital juggernaut with over 4.4 million Facebook fans, over 40 million YouTube/VEVO views, and 165,000 Twitter followers.

Most importantly though, Crazy World is the next level for the band, which Johnson founded in the suburbs of Boston, MA back in 2005. "I'm no longer an 18-year-old just stoked on hooking up with girls, drinking Bud Light, and playing fast pop punk," he divulges. "You experience things in life, and you realize you have one chance to say something as a musician and create something great that feels honest to you. This is that chance."

So what are Boys Like Girls ultimately saying?

"Crazy World takes you to a different place," Johnson concludes. "That was the point. Everything is so hyperactive and the digital distractions can be overwhelming. Step aside in this Crazy World and experience the things that truly matter."

"I take deep, spiritual, and visionary ideas and then simplify them in my music so that they can be easily understood. I tend to see the world in a very fairytale-like way. My music really reflects that purity which seems to draw little kids who respond very strongly and enthusiastically to it. My album “Break Free” contains inspirational lyrics for anyone who is following their dream. YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF FIRST. Don't wait for someone else to make it happen. See your own vision through till the end no matter what. I gave birth to my songs as a means to survive and overcome my own personal struggles. "BREAK FREE" represents my quest to be heard and to reach my full potential in this life. It was also intended to help others on their quest to find their own voice and go after their dreams. I had so many faithless influences in my life, which as I look back at in retrospect really helped to serve as G-D's intention to make me fight as hard as I could! Of course luv is quite present in my work as well. I am definitely a lover at heart. Who says you can't be a lover and a fighter?" - Shirley Levi

Even before Shirley Levi began to speak, she already knew that music, singing and performing were her true callings. She always knew that she was destined to flee Iran and come to America to pursue her dreams. Before moving to the USA, while on a trip to New York, her parents heard the name Shirley and fell in love with it. That's how, even before they knew they would eventually escape Iran, she came to be given the American name Shirley. Coincidentally, Shirley Levi means "Sing to me from the heart" when translated from her mom's native language of Hebrew. This validates even more that Shirley Levi was meant to sing from the heart! As a proud & patriotic US citizen who was once an immigrant, Shirley Levi is making the most of her freedom by expressing her strong voice through her music and art. Her messages are inspiring a generation who never thought they'd have a voice or find personal and artistic freedom. A great deal of her musical works, art and designs pay homage to American culture and its spirit of independence.

Recording Artist/Activist, Shirley Levi is accomplished, self-taught painter who experiments with anything she can get her hands on to make her visions come to life. They are breathtaking, symbolic landscapes of the emotions and spiritual explorations, which she has embarked on throughout her life. Many of her paintings are also visual journeys through her music and lyrics, containing many of the same titles and themes. They are mystical and prophetic, based on her personal dreams, visions and struggles. Although self-taught there are elements of Symbolic Art, Abstract Art, Classical Greek Art, Roman Art, French Impressionism & Expressionism all mixed with the figurative in a whimsical, childlike furor of emotion. Shirley Levi's paintings are currently in private collections all around the world and are highly regarded as visionary, captivating and thought provoking.

Toni Monroe

“The BIGGEST name in the GAME”

In an industry saturated with booty shaking females and dudes oozing with street credibility...Enter TONI MONROE, a Cali-bred MC from LOS ANGELES, armed with the GRIND of a hustler, the lyrical flow of a VETERAN, and a style to make even the most skeptical critic take a second look. Although Hip-Hop allowed her to find her voice, it has been a struggle. Being WHITE, (JEWISH to be exact) A FEMALE, and a B.B.W. (Big Beautiful Woman) in an industry dominated by black males, where only a few great female MC’s have made their mark, Toni’s mission is to spark, inspire and motivate change. “The voices of women in hip hop are almost absent these days…Anybody can rap, but when you take a step back, and really put thought into what you’re saying, it opens up for dialogue…and now we are teaching.” Whether you’re BLACK, WHITE, GAY or STRAIGHT, BIG or SMALL...YOUNG or OLD, Toni Monroe = (equals) ONE SIZE that FITS ALL!
With her underground notoriety on lock, she is definitely turning heads for all of the right reasons. Toni never thought Hip-Hop was created for just one race or culture, but instead an outlet for anyone to express their innermost thoughts, good or bad, through the universal language of music. She has turned what most would see as a roadblock into a door opener, being a Jewish Female, in a VERY Voluptuous package, radiating True Star Quality! Toni Monroe has been on her GRIND for over half a decade. She’s finally set to make her mark in the industry. She’s studied the art, MASTERED her CRAFT and PAID her dues. She is fully MARINATED, thoroughly SEASONED and poised for SUCCESS. The road hasn’t been an easy one. From hearing time and again things like, “She’s FAT and WHITE” to “How can we ever market this?” She’s been pushed down and pushed out! But all of this REJECTION has fueled a fire within Toni Monroe to become the illest “CHICK/Female MC” in the game, and nothing is going to stop her!

Embraced by many talented MC’s, who recognize her extraordinary gift and talented vocals, Toni has opened shows for many successful and iconic artists such as: E-40, Lil Kim, Mobb Deep, Nelly, Ice Cube, MC Hammer, WC, BoneThugs-N-Harmony, DJ Quik, and Fat Joe, to name a few. Her rising success and increasing buzz has placed her in an elite group of the Top 3 Female MC’s, according to Female Rap West Coast Icon “The Lady of Rage”. Not only will this seasoned MC blow your mind with her testimony and array of songs taking you from one mood to the next, but she is a renowned song writer and accomplished producer, who has been working behind the scenes for many years, crafting many musical masterpieces for many artists, working across the board with her hand in every genre of music. They say “Big things have small beginnings” well that’s true, in a world where SIZE MATTERS, and in the case of Toni Monroe, BIG is definitely Better! Check out her videos below.

Eliza DeAngeles

Born in London England at a pivotal turn point in music history, Eliza DeAngeles is the offspring to a Sunset Strip Rock n' Roll booking agent, and she as well as has the honour of sharing the same birthday as her grandmother Elizabeth.
Growing up, Eliza and her sisters were privy to the countless tales of their mothers involvement in getting getting bands to play the Whiskey-A-Go-Go during the 60's and 70's. Her upbringing also involved being exposed to a wide variety of music... from Rock to Motown, Tchaikovsky to Miles Davis, Country to Pop... and her mothers fondness for the piano and guitar.

All of this heavily influenced Eliza's passion for music, which oddly enough, she claims "Hotel California" as an early influence... "It was the Eagles that first brought any kind of emotion to me. It's engrained in me because that song was from one of the albums my mum used to play alot, when we would go visit my father".
While in her teens, it was her older sister that took the stage first, as part of an R&B group, which prompted her aspirations to make her move into the music world. That, and probably the release of a little known album titled 'Jagged Little Pill' by a virtual unknown singer named Alanis Morissette, may have fueled something even deeper. "She really went for it. She had alot to say, and really deep... aggressively. And I kinda always felt that in music, there was this Level you weren't supposed to cross...but she crossed it, and I felt she gave me the drive to do what I want in music". Besides Morissete, Eliza lists Tracy Chapman as a major influence "It's the simplicity in her, and how powerful the simple things she says are". Adam Levine from Maroon 5 is also an influence, as well as Bob Marley "I love music where people have something constructive to say. He always had something... he's uplifting. You could jam to it, and it wasn't too heavy. Music with a message. Music with a Positive Affirmation. Music with a heartfelt spin. Real earthy roots music... that's what I like".

Moving from London to the U.S. left Eliza with a decision: Nashville or Los Angeles? Most of her early writing had been written in an Acoustic Folk genre at the time... "That was due to the influence of emotions that was going on... of how i felt... a very dark & broken time, which reflects in the first album". Yet, as a songwriter, her love & desire for words and music has spilled into several genres. Making Los Angeles her home, allowed her this opportunity to become 'flexible' in her songwriting, for her and for other artists. "I think that's where being British comes in as well, because I have a very vast vocabulary. London's a melting pot. The cultures are vast, and so is the music". Up until now, Eliza's songwriting has been passionately flexible, from her early acoustic folk, to rock, pop and hip-hop. Assembling the short-lived All-Female Rock Quartet "Suicide Sirens" garnered her an even wider audience for her lyrics, topics and vocal abilities.
Currently, Eliza has been eyeing & appraising the Blues arena for her upcoming musical endeavor. "I feel like i'm alot more confident musically now. I'm gonna test myself a little bit more in this new year. I'm gonna push my vocals a little bit more, and push my abilities a little bit deeper, because that's where I'm at in my life".

And as for her Voice, it has matured in a raw & natural fashion. The years of combining the elements that spurred her passion early on, now displays self-assuredness, as she fine tunes her skills to take on 2012 with a whole new sound, complete with a new perspective and set of emotions.

Terry Dexter

Her name is familiar. You've probably heard of her before, and you may have even heard the full-range of her indelible vocal skills and unmistakable, impassioned voice on the works of other recording artists and soundtracks. She is perhaps best known for her 1999 Warner Bros. Records debut, the self-titled release Terry Dexter which spawned two singles “Better Than Me” and “Strayed Away”, both of which charted in the top 20 R&B on BILLBOARD and her 2008 critically acclaimed “Listen” release and single “I’m Free” which also charted on BILLBOARD. But Terry's also known as a “singers singer,” and artists like mentor Patti LaBelle ( Terry co-wrote patti’s single “Anything” featuring Kanye West and Mary Mary ), Jaheim, Eric Benet (that’s her soaring voice you hear on Benet's remix of the number one hit, “Spend My Life With You”), Jazz great Paul Taylor, the group Black Eye Peas and a solo Will.i.am have all called upon her for guest appearances on their albums. She has also worked with other music greats such as George Duke who has called on her to co write and record for various projects and Wyonna Judd and Michael Mcdonald, who she performed and recorded alongside on the Hurricane Katrina record “Heart of America” also a theme song for Habitat for humanity.
A multi-talented artist, Terry’s lent her songwriting skills and voice to television, film scores and soundtracks such as “Legally Blonde”, “Rush Hour”, “Bring It On 2”, “Deck The Halls” and “Not Easily Broken” “The L Word”, “Kings and Queens”, and most recently NBC’S “The Playboy Club” a musical TV show centered in the 1960’s. Terrys voice was featured on 6 songs in the show including the theme song which Terry also co-wrote. Her soulful rendition of “Walk Like A Man” was also featured on the show, and as a single on the shows aligning soundtrack on the label Verve. She made her acting debut in the 2003 feature film “Deliver Us From Eva” in which she also performed a goose-bump inducing rendition of “Amazing Grace”.
Born and raised in Detroit around the heavy influence of Motown Soul and gospel Terry was also exposed and inspired by another Detroit born sound and that was electronica. She achieved international success with her dance single remix “Better Than Me” which charted at #2 on the Billboard dance chart and “If You Wanna” with Chicago soul/electronic music legend Roy Davis Jr. which also charted. She’s released numerous national/international singles again with Roy Davis Jr. Steve Hurley, Hex Hector, and Kolonik.

In 2007 Terry added another untapped talent to her brand by securing the lead role as Tyme Prentice in the musical stage play “Love In The Nick Of Tyme”. This #1 stage play production was written and directed by award winning playwright and film director David E. Talbert. In her first role as an actor Terry played to mostly sold out audiences at major theatres such as The Beacon in New York City and 3 sold out nights at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. She also filmed a live film version of the production which has been released on DVD and airs repeatedly on national cable television.
Upcoming in 2012… is the long awaited 3rd solo album which can best be described as an “Ode To Motown”. Terry will make her return to the R&B/soul music scene with a renewed growth and in raw form. The first singles off this collection and new collaboration with the label Rock Room Recordings are titled, “Sunshine” and “ Disappointed”.

Disappointed - Terry Dexter

Johnny Got A Lighter

Johnny Got a Lighter was established in 2008 as the local band transported from the grounds of the San Fernando Valley. The band was constructed by pure fate when drummer, Tib Van Dyke worked at the neighborhood video store and was asked to join a group by one of his customers, Jose Montijo – from there the group formulated a melodious bond that is bound to overcome the stage and kill the radio.

Added members to the band included Alex Cooper and Ricky Salazar who brought more structure to the sound with their individual talents. Although they didn’t have much, except for quality sound and a distinctive rhythm, nothing was stopping them from moving forward. Before the name Johnny Got a Lighter was decided upon, the band was known as both The Tibsters and as Video Store. They performed, without a singer, at a few small venues in the San Fernando Valley area. With the addition of Rhiana Lewis as lead vocalist in 2009, new songs were written and old songs were given lyrics. JGAL, as they were now also known, began playing in earnest. They played in venues all over Southern California. In late 2010, the band went through a change in line up. Jose left the band, Rhiana picked up the guitar as rhythm guitarist, Bob by Vasquez replaced a departing Alex on bass guitar and Ricky brought in keyboards in addition to his role as lead guitarist. In addition to writing and performing new songs, the band spent the next year working with various industry professionals to refine their sound and record a four-track demo with renounced producer, Daniel Balistocky. Johnny Got a Lighter plans to continue building their fan base, performing in and around Los Angeles with a tour planned for 2012.

DJ Jahkova

DJ Jahkova comes from Prince George’s County, MD.  She began her career as a radio jockey in New York City for the Funk You 3-5 Hot Spot on WHCS at Hunter College before moving on to New York’s Urban Mix on WWRL.  In the booth, she learned she had an affinity for music as much as a radio personality. To hone her musical skills, she enrolled in Scratch DJ Academy founded by the late Grand Jam Master Jay in the West Village of Manhattan.  She quickly impressed her teachers and mentors who saw she proved to be quite the natural on turntables.  With the necessary techniques under her belt, and the support of the Scratch Academy staff, she soon found herself spinning at a local Lower East Side bar where a thirty-minute audition turned into a regular Friday night…all night…hip-hop dance party.

Jahkova’s style is a unique mix of new old school hip-hop, R&B, soul and house.  Born in the eighties, she is a true child of the nineties enabling her to bring a refreshing spin to sounds produced in an era where the lines between the old and new are blurred.  Dropping club bangers to soul swayers, Jahkova’s musical taste is representative of the next generation of DJ’s whose refusal to let go of classic funk is blended with a refusal to turn their backs on the emergent, and often criticized sounds of new hip-hop.  From Herb Alpert to Drake, the Jackson 5 to Rihanna she offers something for everybody.

Jahkova presently resides in Los Angeles where she is the resident DJ at two of LA’s hottest nightclubs.  You can catch her spinning alongside KCRW’s DJ Anthony Valadez on Friday nights at Zanzibar and Saturday nights at Little Temple.  During the week she  performs her “soundscapes” for private clientele throughout the city and at in-store events such as Juicy, Seven, Bloomingdales, Macys and H&M to name a few.  Far reaching out to international destinations, Jahkova has also provided quality entertainment to global clientele onboard exotic cruise lines.

From the radio to the clubs to the studio to the sea, Jahkova’s unique style and hand selected beats are sure to please any crowd. Her East Coast soul combined with her West coast flavor promises a musical set and mood that is infectious and body moving. To stay up to date on Jahkova’s schedule, collaborations, and current projects send an e-mail to: info@djjahkova.com

DJ Jahkova founded Soul Spinners Society with the goal of creating better opportunities for underrepresented musical talent to showcase their creative, collaborative, and competitive sides. Her mission to cultivate this talent is personal. Josh Tatum

“I make music for the love of making music,” declares newcomer Josh Tatum. Simply stated, yet one listen to his debut album Everythingon Hideaway Entertainment and it is clear that there is nothing simple about Josh’s talent. With every note on the self penned 12 track album listeners are drawn into the world of an artist who has honed his songwriting skills and filled his debut with varied musical tastes to form a perfect introduction to all that is Josh Tatum.

Having played and written in many genres of music, Josh’s style is a vast composite of influences, “I’ve always done my best to steer clear of being labeled a certain type of artist because I want each song to resonate with the listener individually.”  Josh’s lyrics have always told a story based on personal experience and emotion. “There is something so pure and exhilarating when your music is out in the world for people to hear.  I don't think it gets much better than that - my music is my story and I want to put my life in songs.”

Born and raised in Texas, Josh knew he wanted to be a musician from the time he was a little boy. “When I was very little my parents got me piano lessons but it wasn't until my grandfather bought me an electric guitar when I was in the first grade that I realized the power that music actually had.” Starting his first band in the 7th grade Josh took to playing gigs around Texas and eventually through the South, growing as a musician. “I think the support my family gave me to explore my interests at a very young age is one of the main reasons I got into making music. I always felt like there was so much to do and explore and music was the best way for me to get out and create something that would develop and change as I did.”

Right out of high school Josh packed up and moved to Los Angeles to explore his dreams of becoming a better musician realizing soon after that not everything is as it seems. He eventually made the return back to Texas to attend the University of Texas in Austin where he got to work, further exploring the local musical terrain with a renewed gusto, and writing and performing with renewed inspiration.  Eventually Josh found himself in a band with follow students and they started playing gigs everywhere they could. “We all made the decision to drop out of school and get out on the road booking our own tour.  We bounced around quite a bit between Austin, Los Angeles, and Ft Worth making music the whole time.” From playing empty roadhouses in Texas, to sold-out shows at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, Josh is no stranger to connecting with his audience.  Backed with a core line-up of electric musicians Josh Tatum is an artist you will not soon forget.  “To me, it’s always been about the journey and the story it helps build in my music.” This honest energy is never shown more than in the live venue.

Josh has continued the journey to this day performing shows across the country while making his debut album Everything on Hideaway Entertainment, headed by CEO and entrepreneurial visionary James Yoder and Executive Vice President Russ Regan. With over thirty years in the music business under his belt, Regan has played a major role in the careers of the biggest names in the music business including Elton John, Neil Diamond, Barry White, and Olivia Newton-John. “Josh Tatum is one of the brightest singer/songwriters I’ve heard in a long, long time” said Regan.

Josh’s single “Everything I Need” made an impressive chart debut and climb this year causing Hot AC radio to sit up and take notice of this young talent. “I think people connect to this song because I wrote it about leaving the 'bubble' and jumping into the real world when I left Ft Worth for Los Angeles. I experienced a lot of craziness but it's about being grateful for the air in your lungs and the sun in the sky. This is a song about truly looking at yourself and realizing that no matter how bad it gets, life is good.”

Everything affirms that notion from beginning to end. Whether it’s the down and out “Wasted,” the weary fragility of “I Just Need You” where Josh explores the possibility of not making it as an artist, the playfully bittersweet slap of “Believe,” the rockin’ “I’m Only Human,” or the undeniable stand-out track “Fall” where Josh fantasizes about the simple things that feel so far away sometimes even if they're are all around you, the album is laden with musical gems.  “This album is compiled of songs that I wrote over a few years.  I called it everything because it really has a wide range.  There are driving rock songs and there are soul/groovy songs.  I am so excited and proud of this album and can’t believe it’s finally out there for everyone to hear.”

Drawing musical influences from a vast array of eclectic artists including Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, The Eagles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Butler Trio, New Found Glory and Nirvana, Josh Tatum is determined to leave his own musical mark on listeners and with his debut album Everything it’s easy to see that as an attainable goal.

“My ultimate goal is to make a positive impression on the world in some way with my music and to make people see their true potential,” said Josh. “I want to inspire people to become exactly what they want to be and to hold each other up.”

“Oh, oh I know I'm not the only one who thinks we can all agree
That this world can be an ugly place/Today it's so beautiful to me
I saw the right things on the wrong side of the street/
And I've got everything, everything I need.”
- - “Everything I Need,” Josh Tatum

Anna Sentina

Anna Sentina has been playing music since she can remember. First starting with piano, she began formal piano training at the age of eight, started playing guitar at twelve, then began slapping the bass at thirteen. Anna’s mother greatly influenced her start in the metal genre by introducing rock bands like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, and Iron Maiden into Anna and her twin brother, Ricky’s lives. At the age of twelve, Anna started The School of Rock. There, she learned the true meaning of being in a band and playing live shows regularly. At fourteen, Anna went on tour with The School of Rock All Stars. Only her and another member of The School of Rock in her branch were asked to learn a selection of songs from the Woodstock era, meet and practice with the other 23 School of Rock Students selected from the entire base of students of SORs around California at the Hollywood school for two days, then head out and tour the USA’s west coast for fifteen days performing songs played during Woodstock (1969). Anna played guitar, bass, and piano on the tour. This group of students played at venues including The Whisky on Sunset Blvd, The Mint, The Glass House, Universal Studios, Musician’s Institute, The Hardrock Café (Phoenix), and Venice Beach. It was a life-changing experience for Anna. After the tour, she knew this was what she wanted to set her heart and mind to. She went on another West Coast Tour with the All Stars at fifteen, performing in venues all over Las Vegas, Reno, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Phoenix. Anna continued with The School of Rock until she hit sixteen.

She started doing covers of popular metal, hardcore, and rock songs to post on YouTube and is continuing to do so. Anna has been in several bands during her music career. Now at seventeen, she is currently in a post-hardcore metal band called The Empire Within. The members include Anna on bass, Anna’s twin brother Ricky Sentina on guitar, Josh Bernstein also on guitar, Devin Slubowski on drums, Jensen Crouch doing screaming vocals and Jake Ingrande doing clean vocals. Anna’s major influences include artists ranging from the 1960s until the 21st century: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Flea, Jason King, and John Petrucci. She will be graduating high school this year and will be attending a University next year. Chantelle Barry - Love Someone

Meklit Hadero

Set your Google Alerts to singer Meklit Hadero and you’ll see she gets a lot of love from the press.  Her first album, “On a Day Like This”, was recently featured in the award-winnning film Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life, directed by Tamar Halpern and starring Mira Sorvino and Joe Pantoliano.  Meklit’s music infuses a jazz-influenced singer-songwriter style with Ethio tones and the kind of lyrics that get you thinking about deeper things – like the meaning of life!

LA Music Magazine caught up with Meklit Hadero before her upcoming show with CopperWire, an Ethiopian Hip-Hop Space Opera trio.

LA MUSIC MAG: Can you tell us a bit about your background as a musician?

MEKLIT HADERO: I'm a musical shapeshifter. I've spent the last four years focusing on bringing together an acoustic sound, basing tunes on a nylon string guitar, with lyrics inspired by the songwriting greats, Jazz musicians as a backing band, and Ethiopian folk songs to boot. Now I'm developing in a new direction as a part of CopperWire, an Ethiopian-American hip-hop trio with emcees Gabriel Teodros and Burntface. Earthbound, our debut record, releases in April and is a sci-fi themed space opera, rich with metaphors of diaspora, cultural connection, humanness and otherness. My next record is a duo project with Oakland soul singer Quinn Deveaux. We're looking at the soul roots of indie rock and art rock. My music is as diverse as my iTunes collection. I'm all about multiplicity.

LA MUSIC MAG: How did Tamar Halpern first find you?

MEKLIT HADERO: We first met when I performed at the Tedx Rainier conference in Seattle. Tamar’s friend Nassim Assefi, my fellow TED fellow, had curated the conference and Tamar came up to me after, telling me how much she loved my performance. The conversations started there.

LA MUSIC MAG: We understand your music is very important in the film, highlighting the moment when the lead character finds the keys to open a mysterious box marked The Meaning of Life.  How does it feel to be included on a soundtrack with established greats like Edie Brickell and Brit band Sing-Sing?

MEKLIT HADERO: When Tamar reached out a few months after we met, I was inspired by her passion for Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life.  It sounded really sweet and genuine and I was happy to be a part of it.

LA MUSIC MAG: Can you tell us what’s inside the box?

MEKLIT HADERO: Sorry. I’m sworn to secrecy!

Named a TED Global Fellow in 2009 and a TED Senior fellow in 2012, Meklit has served as an artist-in-residence at New York University, the De Young Museum, and the Red Poppy Art House. Dedicated to sonic experimentation, Meklit sits at the intersection of arts and their impact, between the pop world and the sociological, between the pure human need for music and the way it shapes our cultural landscape. She is the founder of the Arba Minch Collective and the co-founder of the Nile Project.

Reviews for Meklit Hadero

“You may not have heard Meklit Hadero’s music before, but once you do, it’ll be tough to forget…it paints pictures in your head as you listen.”- NPR’s Tell Me More

“One of our favorite new releases of 2010…”- Tom Pryor, National Geographic World Music

“Meklit Hadero… combines N.Y. jazz with West Coast folk and African flourishes, all bound together by Hadero’s beguiling voice, which is part sunshine and part cloudy day.”- Nevin Martell, Filter Magazine

“Soulful, tremulous and strangely cinematic, Hadero’s voice will implant scenes in your mind … Close your eyes, listen and dream.”- Lynn Jacobson, Seattle Times

“It’s not just the voice, which is both soothing and rapturous. It’s not just the guitar-playing, which can veer from folksy to swingy to everything in between. It’s also the sentiment and the lyrics that pour out of Meklit Hadero’s songs — words that narrate gorgeously transportive thoughts…”-San Francisco Weekly

“This album has been on constant rotation, with every spin revealing something fresh and addictive. - Derek Beres, The Huffingon Post
And now Meklit Hadero's video, "Leaving Soon."

Leaving Soon

Copperwire

When Meklit Hadero, Gabriel Teodros and Burntface, aka Ellias Fullmore, met in the studio to see what happened, well, so many great songs tumbled out so fast, and the creative connection proved so strong, that the three knew there was no looking back on their journey… Earthbound.

That’s the CopperWire effect. Copper—the most common of metals, yet far from ordinary. “It’s the cheapest material you can find, but a huge amount of electricity can go through it,” Burntface says. Coiled together, these three artists have discovered themselves to be a vessel, a conduit that transmits a creative power greater than themselves—one that zaps through the barriers of genre and geography that would label and divide them, and for which they have no use.

Their vantage point: Outer space. Like other visionaries before them—Sun Ra, Parliament-Funkadelic, David Bowie, Octavia Butler—CopperWire step off the surface of the planet, claim their extra-terrestrial roots, the better to make sense of our world and engage it humanely.

They know a bit about aliens and alienation. They were raised with Ethiopian roots but mixed and transplanted in America, shaped in San Francisco, Seattle, Washington D.C., New York. They are children of folk and rock and hip-hop who are catching up to their parents’ Amharic language and traveling back to a homeland in the throes of challenge and change.

From the metal imagery of airplane and spaceship to the sharpness and sheen of the beats, this is a mineral, material album. But copper is grounding, too, and it’s no accident that the inspiration to make Earthbound came to the three while on a trip to Ethiopia, performing in the capital and small country towns. There, Meklit, the singer-songwriter, found herself improvising to Burntface’s beats, her band adding bass and horn licks. Burntface and Gabriel, the MCs, beat-boxed to Meklit’s melodies. Meklit says “The metaphor of traveling back and forth—it’s not just traveling over land, but to an entirely different part of your mind and of yourself.”

“Step out of your comfort zone,” Meklit sings on the song Mahalia Einstein, and the group follows its own advice. Steeped in classical music, co-producer Chris Coniglio worked with Burntface to texture the right space-opera soundscape without compromising the boom-bap immediacy of hip-hop. Meklit connected with scientists at NASA’s Kepler Lab and the Search for Extra-terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) program, which searches for inhabitable worlds beyond our own—to harvest actual star sounds and hybridize them into CopperWire’s music, even into the sound of her own voice. Burntface, not just an accomplished MC and producer, is also a software developer. He secured a strategic partnership with AppSynth Media to create a series of innovative mobile applications for CopperWire that explores augmented reality technology, and generative music as part of a multi-threaded narrative inspired by the Earthbound album.

Like so many migrants, CopperWire’s members balance the idea of distant origins with the resolute engagement with all the places they find themselves, as a method of making themselves at home. That means youth mentoring and activism in Seattle for Gabriel, or helping run a community arts non-profit in San Francisco for Meklit, a TED Senior Fellow. It also means projects with other artists from hip-hop to traditional music that aim to strengthen communities and the environment, from the Nile River to America’s urban neighborhoods.

On Earthbound, the three enact characters—Gabriel as Getazia 13 Zeritoicus-Oxygen, or Getazia for short — the half-alien, half-human; Burntface as Professor Askala Bilaq a.k.a. Scholar Black — the ice-cool scientist; Meklit as Ko Ai — the messenger and supernova-born solo traveler capable of entering the minds of different people… or the soul of the computer. It’s a space opera, after all; but the characters are not just for the album. They step out of it and into the struggles and wonders of life. “We’re going to Earth for the first time,” Gabriel says, “to learn about what being human means.”

- Siddhartha Mitter

CopperWire's freshman  cd , the hip hop space opera EARTHBOUND  (a collaboration  with emcees Burntface and Gabriel Teodros) was just released on April 17 and has already been hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as "a brilliant debut" .

Rebecca Sullivan

Rebecca Sullivan is a singer/songwriter originally from Wellington, New Zealand.  She moved around a lot as a child, but has spent most of her adult life in Thousand Oaks, CA.  She studied History at UCLA, but has always been passionate about music, and started writing songs in an attempt to follow that passion.

Her music is unique, because Rebecca is a unique person – she has never quite “fit in” anywhere, and she genuinely likes people from all walks of life. Her music speaks to normal people, and she writes about things to which everyone can relate, such as feeling awkward, eating too much

chocolate after a break-up, or having one of those days when all your problems seem to disappear.

The Check Is In The Mail (Andre Maurice)

The Check Is In The Mail

This guy is not  only a phenomenal singer, but also does with many single fathers fail to do; take care of his child. Andre came to Los Angeles by way of Detroit determine to succeed and bring his positive message to the masses via music and film in front and behind the camera, Andre Maurice,  IMDB.com. Berry Gordy posing with Andre above, the founder of Motown,  is Andre's mentor. Andre is also a dedicated member of WWW.IMNOTADEADBEATDAD.COM presents THE VOICE OF A FATHER’S UNHEARD TEARS. I’M NOT A DEADBEAT DAD has been organizing to link people to advocacy groups that fight for fairer parental rights and laws.  Parents, mainly Fathers, not living with their children are considered non-custodial parents, so many don’t know until a legal situation occurs that they don’t share the same rights as the custodial parents.

That is what inspired one of our members, Andre’ Maurice, to write a song about a father’s emotional and financial struggle.  This outstanding artist represents the voice of a father’s unheard tears.  THE CHECK IS IN THE MAIL from his album I COME UP HARD is his soulful R&B song that is a heartfelt story of a man's pain.  In the soon to be released music video, even though the father is doing everything to provide for his daughter that he loves so much, it’s still not considered enough.  To make matters worse, the FOC (Friend of The Court) is dictating the love of a father by putting a ($) dollar amount to their relationship.

Unfortunately, this scenario is very common in many men’s lives no matter what income level or race he is.  That’s why we encourage you to be the first to listen to this powerful song.  This song touches upon an issue that affects many families, and we, I’M NOT A DEADBEAT DAD, feel very strongly about supporting family unity that is brought to you through harmonious music. Download it  to support it and be inspired as we change the world one father at a time.

Although English is her primary language, Shirley also sings in Hebrew, Spanish & Farsi. In songs such as "Lyon of JerUSAlem" (English and Hebrew) and "Anne Marie" (English and Spanish), Shirley seamlessly blends two languages at once. "English became my first language and means of expression, but my ethnic background still roams in my blood."

Recording Artist/Activist Shirley Levi's new line of apparel called T-Shirley was launched by popular demand from her fans that admire her unique personal style & attitude.
